PenFed is hiring a Mortgage Marketing Data Scientist (Remote) at one of the following locations: Tysons, Virginia or San Antonio, Texas. The primary purpose of this job is to develop and evaluate models associated with PenFed’s mortgage lending and servicing functions to quantify the organization’s lending opportunity, fulfillment performance, market penetration, and evaluate the performance of established controls with guidance from management.  Incumbent provides statistical input for the development and implementation of policies, plans, and programs related to mortgage origination and servicing portfolio monitoring.  

Responsibilities

  • Develop statistical models for production forecast, custom risk/performance scorecards with guidance, including but not limited to compiling data, sampling/prepping data, feature selection, model comparison/selection and monitoring.
  • Work on model implementation and model validation with internal and external teams as requested.
  • Using data mining tools to access and prepare data for statistical and other business analysis.
  • Using Tableau and/or other data visualization tools, develop scalable and controlled views that translate business performance and forecasts into management views that highlight performance toward KPIs and illustrate opportunies for processes improvement.
  • Adhoc analysis on origination and servicing performance drivers (e.g., market forecast, sales conversion, fulfillment efficiency, portfolio retention).
  • Perform structured analyses to address business problems.
  • Apply intermediate to advanced knowledge of financial processes and procedures, and routine modeling theories and techniques to create effective modeling solutions for a single or multiple business functions.
  • Participate in corporate projects as requested.
  • Keep informed of new ideas and academic research within the industry, best practices, and regulatory developments through publications, membership in professional organizations and contact with other financial institutions.     
  • Assist management with maintaining PenFed’s compliance with all applicable federal, state and local laws, regulations and ordinances by abiding by PenFed compliance program and all policies, procedures, rules and regulations.                      

Qualifications

Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.

  • Bachelors Degree from Data science, statistics, economic and other fields with strong quantitative analysis skills.
  • Applied experience with Business Intelligence/Data Visualitaion tools (e.g., Tableau).
  • Applied experience with Logistic Regression, Linear Regression, Time Series Analysis, Decision Trees, and Cluster Analysis.
  • Advanced programming skills to include knowledge of statistical programs (e.g. SQL, SAS, SPSS, and R).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and implement rapid changes in project direction.
  • Proven project management skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an indoor office setting with moderate noise.

*Most roles require working in an office setting with moderate noise and the ability to lift 25 pounds.*

Travel

Ability to travel to various worksites and be on-call is required.
